Successful breastfeeding is a very satisfying and rewarding part of motherhood. Both physically and emotionally to mother and baby.
The health benefits to both mother and baby have been well documented, but the availability of professional help, and/or time allocated is not always sufficient to meet the needs of the mother.
Many women have some difficulty with breastfeeding at some stage whether it is with their first baby or subsequent baby. There are many reasons why, but fortunately most problems can be resolved with the correct help and information. The BCP was set up because many women had expressed they did not know who to turn to for help once regular visits from the Community Midwife and/or Health Visitor had stopped.
The BCP is committed to ensuring that women who have made the choice to breastfeed their babies are given the best possible, evidence based information to enable them to do so.
The BCP can offer a consultation in the privacy of the home. Being unhurried with adequate time to relax, discuss the breastfeeding history and problems, observe feeding and assist with breastfeeding techniques, offer appropriate information and a plan of care to deal with any difficulties.
