Why the BCP?

Breastfeeding is the natural way to feed a baby, however it is a learned skill.

The BCP is here to help in Sussex.

Sore cracked nipples.

Usually resolved by improving positioning of the baby at the breast. Occasionally caused by tongue tie which may well be improved by better positioning. Where this is not possible frenulotomy (snipping of a tongue tie) can be arranged.
Engorgement/mastitis.

Improvement of breastfeeding practises to prevent re-occurrence. Recognition of bacterial mastitis and appropriate referral.
Concerns about infant weight gain

Optimising lactation, breast drainage,improving positioning, and frequency and length of feeds etc.
Breast refusal.

Gentle techniques to encourage baby back to breast. Skin to skin, co-bathing, hands off etc.

Help and advice on maintenance of lactation and transition of baby from other feeding methods to breastfeeding.
